Kistisza / Interesting places

Hungary-Kis TiszaThe name „Kistisza” indicates one of the blind channels of river Tisza located on the outskirts of Tiszalök, in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. It is situated a few hundred meters away from the living river Tisza that is connected to it with a narrow channel covered with thick meeting crowns of trees. This place is very popular among local anglers. The built-up cooking and resting places do not disturbe the beauty of the land.

Despite the lots of traffic, a number of water fowls build a nests and search their nutrient without being disturbed and enjoy the protection of the neighbouring forest and huge reeds.
Among other things I usually ride my bicycle to this place and look for a subject for taking photpgraphs.
I return to this place repeatedly in every season and record the process of the changing of this land.
The photograph entitled „Kistisza” was taken at the end of December in a more quiet period.
As the picture was being taken the process was helped by really nice colours that were unusual for the season. I meant to record the contrast between the cold ice and the warm colours of the sunset in that winter afternoon. I drove to the water with a photographer friend of mine for looking around and we took several pictures but only later when the sun going down made the colours proper for taking the photograph. The mountain Tokaj in the background is showing the clearness of the weather which is about a distance of 14,00 km away from Tiszalök.

The photograph was taken from three exposure in uncompressed format with a Canon EOS 350D camera and a Canon EF-S 18-55mm objective. The stand was substituted by the bar of the bridge.

It can be approached by car, can be reached from the cycle path which goes across the town and it is not far away from the trainstation.

A number of nature reserves can be found in this part of the county just a few kilometers away from Tiszalök:

-A lot of species of plants and animals can be found in the arboretum which starts at the hydroelectric powerstation in Tiszalök
- The flood area with the hard wood park in Tiszadob where hundred-year-old trees live and the living area of grey herons
- A sodic area called „Fehér-szik” on outskirts of Tiszavasvári which is a resting place for birds of passage in spring and autumn

I can recommend this area of Hungary throughout the year - but especially in June when the riverTisza is blooming - for those who want to explore the beauties of the Great Hungarian Plain and the river Tisza, want to go for a trip and to take nature photographs.
